Ronald Webb

Payments infrastructure founder & digital financial services executive

A senior payments executive and infrastructure co-founder with more than thirty years building, scaling and commercialising payment platforms across Africa, Asia-Pacific and other emerging markets. Ronald has worked every side of the industry — as technologist, senior executive, board member, entrepreneur and advisor — alongside banks, mobile network operators, card schemes, regulators and development finance institutions.

He has headed the world's largest Mobile Money business in the world implementing revolutionary products and services. He conceived the free, low-value Kadogo tariff — extending affordability to Kenya’s poorest and growing 133% year on year and oversaw the Open API developer platform that cut third-party integration from four months to one week. and redirected the card programme to the hybrid-NFC 1Tap product.

Ron has help directorships with banks, MFI's and other software businesses. Earlier he co-founded, built and exited pioneering payments-infrastructure businesses in East and Southeren Africa. These included bank-grade switching, card management, ATM networks and bulk-payment rails serving 42 issuers, and designed the world’s first M-PESA card-less ATM interface.

Digital Financial Services Consulting specializes in emerging market, disruptive payment services. Projects have included modelling regional mobile-money interoperability, implementing various payment platformsm remediating national payment switches with engagements spanning Africa, Central America, Asia-Pacific and East Asian markets. Having held senior roles across all three sides of the industry, he moves comfortably across the line between technology and business.
